2016 Olympics sketches

I chose Tokyo as the city to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

  1. What kind of type are you going to use for these designs?

I think the torch one is good. The design sun/flame thing might just work on it's own without the holder. You could stylize the spot on the first one like the flame thing. The mountain one is too over-cumbersome for me. Or maybe you could exploit Japan in other areas too - like the flowers, paintings, food, and/or architecture. I don't know, good start though

  2. My favorite is the Mt. Fuji one, just because that is such a recognizable icon of Japan. However it may not be appropriate for the Summer games. My next choice would be the one with the sun and the torch. Its a good idea and a good use of iconic imagery.

  3. The one with the stripes probably won't really work that well since the logo will have to be put on so many different things and it will look kind of strange. The play off the flag is a good idea as well as the torch one.

  4. I think futura light works well with the thumbnail that uses a combination of type and rings (the third one from the second row). With this vertical composition, you may be able to create a connection with ancient Japanese arts.

  5. I like the fourth typeface to go along with the second thumbnail. The second thumbnail is creative by putting the stylized sun from the Japanese flag as the icon for the 0. I think that's great creativity.
