I'm doing a collection of animated works produced by Paul Dini, a comic book writer: Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond.

3 Bad Designs

3 bad designs
1. Blister packages may seem useful to deter theft, but if someone really wants to steal something they will. They showcase the product well, but ultimately can be very difficult for the end user to open the package.
----------

2. Shampoo bottles seem like they would be unwieldy just because it's very slippery in the shower or bath. The pump top bottles are better designed and feel easier to use.
----------

3. I always felt that boxes of thumb tacks were badly designed. The box if flimsy, and there's if the user isn't careful they can hurt themself.

3 good designs

3 good (every day) designs

1. The Sweet and Sour Mix is good design to me because having used this before, it's the same size and shape as the plastic re-usable juice and mixer bottles used in bars, and it has an extra hole to let air in while the liquid comes out which will let it come out
-----------

2. The "Fridge Packs" that sodas typically come in nowadays are nice because they're thin and fit easily in all refrigerators, and are made in a way so that it easily dispenses drinks.
----------

3. The cap is nicely engineered so that it's difficult for children to open it, but easy for adults so that it's safe for the home. Also, the cap can be used as a "cup" to measure how much mouthwash should be used.
----------

Editted 4th one in:

4. I really like how the cap of this measures out 1 ounce also. You turn the bottle upside down and it fills with the alcohol, and if you're crafty enough you can take the top off without spilling anything and pour it into the drink.

Ads pt. 1 and Packaging pt. 2

First up, the package designs. I moved "Language Learning Success" to the top (Used to be underneath the name of the product), made it all caps, and kearned the type a bit. Made the product name smaller, moved the letters closer together, speech bubbles a bit bigger from what they were when I first made it.

1.1: Moved the "Level 1" and "Spanish" stuff to the top. A lot of empty space in the middle I need to address still I feel.
b: Left the "Level 1" at the bottom, changed the color behind it from white to the same blue on the top.

3: Here I changed the logo a bit and changed color from blue to white background.

---------------------

And the ads! I'm not sure how this is working just yet, I might have to come up with more ideas still. The second one is the same layout, it just uses the logo from 3.

Rosetta Stone 1

I'm not really liking how the background looks so plain, I want to add some sort of texture (Maybe a globe or something since that's their current logo?). The 3D effect on the blue one looks kinda...weird to me too.

Anyways what do you guys think?

Panel Discussion

I went to last week's panel discussion and I really enjoyed myself. This is the second one I went to and I still found it very informative. I liked how all three speakers were in very different industries and gave us their insights. Dominique was really nice and talked a bit about what she does at Neopets and how whatever she didn't know, they taught her there. Theresa did some cool work for movies and showed us "Special" box sets that she made, even though sometimes they may not be chosen. Out of them all I was the most interested in what Max does and where he works (Hamagami Carroll). He showed the process of how some of the products he made went from start to finish along with how although his site isn't the fanciest, it's able to show off his works well enough to get him jobs. In addition to this, he showed how he dabbled a little into Maya and did 3D work and made a short video.

All in all it was a really enjoyable night even though it lasted pretty long, lol.

Thumbnails Project 2

Couldn't decide what I wanted to do, so I did thumbnails for two sets of programs: The Rosetta Stone series and the Adobe series. What do you guys think?

Small variations

Tried a few slight variations on the logo, changed the font of the year.

3 variations

Not sure if I should stick with the idea of the rising sun idea because upon retrospect after the critique, it may be a little too cliché. But my reasoning supporting using it is that the characters that make up Japan translate to "origin of the sun" or "land of the rising sun" (Source).

If it's really that played out I'll mess around and try to create a new logo. For the stationary set, however, I'll most likely be using the original or one of the slight variations when I print it.

Comments are appreciated!

Olympic Stationary

For some reason when I upload the .png it's not working, so instead I'm going to link to a .pdf version of my stationary set:
