Tried a few slight variations on the logo, changed the font of the year.

Not sure if I should stick with the idea of the rising sun idea because upon retrospect after the critique, it may be a little too cliché. But my reasoning supporting using it is that the characters that make up Japan translate to "origin of the sun" or "land of the rising sun" (Source).
If it's really that played out I'll mess around and try to create a new logo. For the stationary set, however, I'll most likely be using the original or one of the slight variations when I print it.

From the three I would choose the first one. The other two are either overlapping or don't work out well enough. So if you want go with the first one.
